Clomiphene citrate (CC) is a widely accepted first-line treatment for anovulatory patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
This article aimed to review the world literature on the clomiphene-citrate stair-step (CC-SS) protocol and to summarise researcher experiences with extending CC-SS approach to initiation of gonadotropin therapy.
The article found that the CC-SS approach and its extension to the initiation of gonadotropin therapy results in favourable ovulation rates and reproductive outcomes.
Large-scale confirmation of these findings could enable the simplification of treatment for PCOS patients and a shorter time to ovulation and pregnancy.
