Navigating possible endometriosis in primary care: a qualitative study of GP perspectives

A qualitative study performed in English primary care. Endometriosis is common (6-10% of women) but the diagnosis is often delayed. This study involved telephone interviews with GPs (with and without a specific interest in women’s health) discussing a fictional scenario of a woman presenting with symptoms suggestive of possible endometriosis.

The results of the study confirm the complexity of consultations in primary care and even with the appropriate knowledge there are other factors that may add to the delay in making a diagnosis.
