This review explores the efficacy of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination on the risk of HPV infection and recurrent diseases related to HPV infection in individuals undergoing local surgical treatment.
The results show that prophylactic HPV vaccination at the time of local treatment for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia might reduce the recurrence risk of high grade preinvasive cervical cancer.
The evidence is, however, inconclusive and the GRADE assessment for the quality of evidence ranged from very low to moderate. Further research into the effectiveness and cost is required.
