Securing a fair fee for fitting long-acting reversible contraception: Consensus statement

Source: Bayer

Years of insufficient and inequitable funding for women’s health services in primary care have left many women struggling to access long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), from their general practices. This is now being exacerbated by further restrictions to access created by the COVID-19 pandemic, which will have a real and lasting impact through widening the health inequalities experienced by vulnerable groups.

To secure better access to women-led choice in contraception, we are calling for a Government-led review of the fees paid to general practices for providing LARC. While this review is focused on NHS England, it may be of relevance for the other healthcare system authorities in the UK.
